The Board of Directors of the National Bank of Romania has recently decided to increase the monetary policy interest rate to the level of 3% per year, from 2.5% per annum and to maintain firm control over the liquidity on the money market.

As for the reference index for consumer loans (IRCC), regulated by GEO 19/2019, it is 1.86% per year, being calculated as an arithmetic average of the daily interest rates of interbank transactions in the fourth quarter of 2021, up from the one published three months ago, of 1.17%.

In May 2019, GEO 19/2019 entered into force, which modifies the way in which the rate for loans in RON with variable interest rate is calculated. Thus, Ordinance 19 established the reference index for consumer loans (IRCC), calculated quarterly exclusively on the basis of interbank transactions.
