EUROPEANS FOR PEACE: Call for applications for projects in 2017 and 2018
Application deadline: 1 December 2016
Programme
In its EUROPEANS FOR PEACE programme, the Foundation EVZ promotes international encounters of young people from Germany and the countries of Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe as well as Israel. Schools and non-school institutions are invited to join up in international partnerships and apply for funding for their joint project. EUROPEANS FOR PEACE encourages young people to be active for human rights and international understanding with historical awareness. Foreign Minister Frank Walter Steinmeier is the patron.
Theme of the call
DISCRIMINATION. WATCH OUT!
Projects on exclusion
In the current programme cycle the young people examine discrimination and persecution under National Socialism or current issues of discrimination against the background of Article 2 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) of 1948: Ban on Discrimination
“Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.”
The projects, which will be implemented between July 2017 and August 2018, can select a historical or contemporary approach to the theme. It is also possible to combine the two approaches.
Historical reference points are the history of National Socialism and of World War II in Europe. In joint project work, young people can explore the causes, mechanisms and consequences of systematic exclusion, deprivation of rights persecution, and annihilation. They can ask: Why did people remain silent and turn a blind eye? Why did some stand up against the wrongs? Connections to local stories and biographical testimonies, to one’s own background, to human rights and to current affairs can be drawn.
In contemporary approaches , projects examine current forms of discrimination and current patterns of thought shaped by prejudice, such as racism, anti-Semitism, antiziganism, or homophobia. The young people explore how every individual can work actively to combat discrimination and exclusion and to foster respect for and protection of minorities and human rights.
